How to: use the wānanga Portal

Once you’re enrolled, your kaiako or kaimahi will grant you access to the online wānanga portal.
This space helps you stay connected, view updates, and manage your learning journey all in one place.

1. log in

You’ll receive access from your kaiako.
After logging in, you’ll be taken to your dashboard here you’ll see your calendar, important aromatawai (assessment) dates, and any upcoming reminders.

2. navigate your dashboard

At the top left-hand side, you’ll see Home and My Courses.
Select My Courses to find the wānanga you’re enrolled in.
Click on the relevant wānanga to open it — inside, you’ll find:

  • Announcements from your kaiako or kaimahi
  • Spaces to ask pātai (questions)
  • Links to resources, forums, and activities

3. explore your learning space

Depending on your kaiako’s or kaimahi’s settings, you may also see:

  • Other tauira (students) who are part of your wānanga
  • A grades section showing your marks and progress
  • Activities including shared resources, assignments, and discussions you can participate in

4. check notifications & messages

On the top right-hand side of your screen:

  • The bell icon will show notifications that need your attention
  • The message icon lets you send group or private messages and star the most important ones

5. manage your profile

Click your profile icon (top right corner) to:

  • Edit your profile and upload a picture
  • Check your grades overview
  • View or edit your calendar to stay on track
  • Upload private files
  • Fully customise your preferences
  • Log out when finished
